This guide covers everything you need to connect your Facebook Page to the LiveControl Dashboard — whether you're setting it up for the first time or reconnecting after a disruption.
Most Facebook connection problems come down to one thing: who has the right level of access to your Facebook Page.
Before you connect: Facebook access requirements
To connect a Facebook Page to LiveControl (or any third-party app), the Facebook account doing the connecting must have Full Control Page Access on that Page. This applies to both first-time setup and reconnection.
Facebook uses an access token to keep LiveControl linked to your Page. That token is tied to the admin who authorized it, and it gets invalidated whenever:
- Someone is added to, removed from, or has their role changed on your Facebook Page or Business Portfolio
- The Facebook password of the connected admin is changed
- Your Page is migrated to a new Business Portfolio structure
When the token breaks, only someone with current Full control Page Access can reconnect LiveControl — even if they were the person who originally set it up.
Steps to Connect LiveControl <> Facebook
Step 1: Check your Page Access
Whether you're connecting for the first time or reconnecting, start here.
- Open your Facebook Page
- Click Professional Dashboard
- Under "Your tools," click Page Access
- Review the two lists:
- People with Facebook access — can manage the Page and connect third-party apps
- People with task access — limited permissions; cannot connect or reconnect LiveControl
You (or whoever will be doing the connection) need to appear in "People with Facebook access" with Full control toggled on. If you don't, skip to What if no one has Full control access? below.
Common surprise: The person who originally created the Page or connected LiveControl is sometimes missing from this list entirely. If that's you, you'll need someone currently on the list to sign into their personal Facebook account and link Facebook to the LiveControl Dashboard.
Here is an example of an account owner who created a page but is no longer listed under "People with Facebook Access" or "Task Access". To see who has access to your page click on the Professional Dashboard menu, then navigate to "Page Access".
This user had to use a secondary Facebook account and give it Page Access in order to relink to their third party apps. You may already have users in this list. If so, that user will be able to relink the integration successfully.
Step 2: Connect (or reconnect) LiveControl
Once you've confirmed Full control Page Access:
- Log into the Facebook account that has Full control
- In a separate tab, log into the LiveControl Dashboard
-
Head to the Destinations Tab
- First-time setup: Follow the Add Facebook destination instructions (link to setup guide)
- Reconnecting: Follow the Facebook reconnection instructions (link to reconnect guide)
- The Destination will show a check mark if connected successfully.
What if no one has Full control access?
If nobody on your team has Full control Page Access (often because the original admin is gone or no longer at the company):
- Someone already on the Page with partial access needs to be promoted to Full control, or
- You may need to add a secondary Facebook account to the Page and grant it Full control, then use that account to connect LiveControl
Preventing future disconnections
Even if everything is working today, these habits will save you headaches later:
- Keep the original admin in place. Avoid removing or demoting whoever originally linked LiveControl. If you must, do it after adding a backup admin with Full control.
- Always maintain a backup admin. At least two people should have Full control Page Access. If one leaves or gets locked out, the other can reconnect.
- Re-add LiveControl after changing your Facebook password. A password change invalidates the access token even if your admin setup hasn't changed.
- Run a Test Event after any admin change. It's the fastest way to confirm the connection survived.
- Contact us before making big changes if you're not sure what will break. A two-minute check beats a missed live stream.
