On occasion, your Facebook connection may need to be re-established due to Facebook updating their third-party live streaming requirements.
Please read below to get the latest information so you can ensure your Facebook connection is working.
-- Updated December 1, 2024 --
Who does this impact?
If you use a Facebook Business Page, you will be affected.
What’s Changing?
If your Facebook Business Page is linked to a third-party app (like LiveControl), please be aware that any changes to the admin roles on your Facebook Business Portfolio may disrupt this connection. Facebook now requires a secure access token, managed through specific admin permissions, to authorize third-party apps like LiveControl.
Even if you're not currently experiencing issues streaming to Facebook, you should still use the best practices outlined below to ensure your Facebook integration stays connected.
What LiveControl Recommends
- Limit Admin Changes: If possible, avoid removing or changing the original admin on your Facebook Business Portfolio, especially if this person originally linked the third-party app. Since any admin changes can disrupt your third-party integrations, try to minimize making changes as much as you can.
- Assign Trusted Admins with Full Page Access: Ensure that at least one additional, trusted admin has Page Access permissions so they can help re-establish any lost connections if admin changes are necessary. More on Page Access below.
-
Test After Changes: If you do make admin changes that could affect the Facebook - LiveControl connection, we recommend running a Test Event to your Facebook destination to check if the connection is still active. If the Test Event does not stream to Facebook, you'll need to re-establish the Facebook connection (instructions below).
Note - changing your Facebook password is a change that can affect the destination's connectivity. We recommend re-adding the Facebook destination after changing your Facebook password. - Reach Out for Support: If your Facebook connection is lost due to admin changes, please contact us for guidance on re-establishing access. Reconnecting Your Facebook Business Page
When your Facebook account converts to a Business Portfolio, Facebook sets up “Page Access” permissions to manage who can control and update your Pages and linked apps. If any admin change is made—such as adding or removing someone from your Facebook Business Portfolio—it will reset, or "sever," the access token required to keep third-party apps connected. Once this happens:
- The original owner of the Page may lose their ability to reconnect the app (LiveControl). Under the new policies, only those with current Page Access permissions can reauthorize and add third-party applications to a Page.
- Even if you were the original admin who linked the third-party app (LiveControl), Facebook’s new setup may prevent you from re-establishing the connection if your admin role or token is disrupted.
- This means that without Page Access, the original owner or admin cannot re-link or reauthorize the third-party app, even if they initially set it up.
Here is an example of an account owner who created a page but is no longer listed under "People with Facebook Access" or "Task Access". To see who has access to your page click on the Professional Dashboard menu, then navigate to "Page Access".
This user had to use a secondary Facebook account and give it Page Access in order to relink to their third party apps. You may already have users in this list. If so, that user will be able to relink the integration successfully.
Once you ensure your Facebook Page Access, click here for instructions to reconnect your Facebook Page to the LiveControl Dashboard.
