Tip 1 – Schedule test broadcasts to validate your stream
Schedule a Test Event to confirm that your stream shows up clearly and sustains connection across your streaming destinations (YouTube, Facebook, or a custom RTMP). If you notice that your feed is not hitting a destination or is intermittent, please contact LiveControl Support.
Tip 2 – Check your network speed
The upload speed required for your live broadcast will vary depending on the quality of the broadcast. Higher quality broadcasts require more bandwidth. We optimize our encoders so that roughly 10-20mbps upstream will provide a successful broadcast. Keep in mind that your upload speed changes depending on the time, usage, and bandwidth allocation of your internal network (i.e. additional users on your Wifi can slow down your network). You can go to Speedtest to test your network speeds.
Please see LiveControl Guidelines and Procedures: Installation for more information.
Tip 3 – Consistently monitor your wired connections
To stream services with LiveControl, a wired Ethernet connection is required. Be sure to check the Cat6 connections from:
-
Your modem to the LiveControl router (1 cable)
-
The LiveControl router to the POE switch (1 cable)
-
The router to each of your cameras (1 cable per camera)
Tip 4 – Audio
-
The volume and gain setting on your in-house mixer for the feed being sent to LiveControl
-
The connection from your mixer to the LiveControl mini mixer or interface (1/4" or XLR)
-
The connection from the mini mixer or audio interface to the LiveControl encoder (USB)
It is important to have a member of your team monitoring the sound for each service. If you plug a set of headphones into the audio interface, you will hear exactly what is being sent to the LiveControl encoder and can make adjustments accordingly.
Tip 5 – Disable other connections
To further optimize your broadcast, you can also disable connections that aren’t necessary for your live stream. The LiveControl encoder requires a wired ethernet connection, so if you are experiencing network congestion, disabling public Wifi or other network users could provide additional bandwidth for your broadcast.
