What is the URL Redirect feature?
Viewer URL Redirect configures the web player to redirect users to a different website after the current broadcast has completed. This can be an internal URL (i.e. a future event) or any other URL on the internet (i.e. a webpage for donations, newsletter sign-up, or special event registration).
How do I use URL Redirect?
Step by Step Instructions
- Begin by logging into your customer dashboard and navigating to your Event Schedule.
- Go through the standard event scheduling flow. See this article for directions on how to schedule a Produced Event and this article for directions on how to schedule a Static Event.
- As you go through the standard event scheduling flow, at the bottom of the page, before selecting Continue, there will be a toggle to Redirect Viewers.
- If you would like URL Redirect for the event you are scheduling, turn the Redirect Viewers toggle on (blue checkmark).
- Once you select on for URL Redirect, a box appears in which you will input the URL. Please note:
- The link will function without the service name (http://) but it's good practice to include it.
- If the second link is an event with a password and the user does not want viewers to enter a password, they must use the link with the password already embedded.
Notes about URL Redirect
The option can be enabled / disabled per event and the text box that appears provides the proper format for the link (http:// or https://). The viewer will be redirected in most instances, including the following:
When it Redirects
- When a viewer is watching the live stream.
- When a viewer has the OPTIONAL registration modal open and incomplete.
When it Doesn't Redirect
- When a viewer has the REQUIRED registration modal open and it is incomplete.
Web Player Display
When the event is an internal link (a link to another event), the web player modal will display the name of the new event instead of the URL.
When the event is an external link (any other website aside from another event), the web player modal will display the URL itself.
FAQ
Can I schedule recurring events with URL Redirect?
Absolutely! This feature would work best with a recurring event that redirected viewers to the same link each time, like a donation page or other static website. We do not recommend using recurring events if you plan to redirect viewers to a subsequent event.
Can I require a password and URL Redirect for the same event?
Yes! You have the ability to implement both password protection and redirection for a single event. Please note that, if redirecting to a subsequent event, users will have to input a second password (or the same password a second time if both events share a password).
Can I do event URL Redirect on static events?
Yes! You can use the URL Redirect on both Produced and Static Events.
If someone watches the event on the web player after the event has concluded, will they still be redirected at the conclusion of the recording?
Yes!
Does URL Redirect appear on my other destinations, like Facebook?
No, this feature only appears on the LiveControl web player.
